A Thai film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives won the Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or. Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul this film was described to whimsical and dreamy. US director Tim Burton led the jury that picked the victor from 19 entries.

Scraper Bikes Oakland

Scraper bikes are tricked-out bicycles with colorful rims fully customized using tape, plastic chip bags, other creative two-tone colors. Oakland is a town where hip-hop is king and cars known as scrapers are huge. These bikes came out of the the scraper car with large rims and colorful rims on and applied it to bikes. Teens in Oakland have found not only a movement but a creative outlet in their community.

Indigenous Indians live and work for the landloard of this island. The Indians left thier home village to pick up work in the small town of Boca Chica, Panama.

Little Saigon celebrates Tet, Vietnamese Lunar New Year, in San Francisco California on Jan. 18, 2009. This years Tet festival is known as year of the buffalo and was held on a beautiful day in little Saigon.

Women and little girls dressed in ao dai, Vietnamese traditional dress, along community members such as the Vietnamese Youth Development Center were among the thousand people came from all over the bay area to visit. The food was abudant and Lee's sandwiches hooked it up with coconut pancakes and promoted their café sua da, while bbq sandwiches were also a popular snack. Although the festival was small covering only a few blocks between Larkin and Eddy Street, it had most of the typical elements of a Tet festival. Common to Tet festivals are the Yellow chrysanthemum flowers in red pots colored the street vendors. There were also famous Cherry blossom branches decorated with red money envelopes to symbolize new beginnings and prosperity. The yellow Saigon Flag with 3 red stripes was posted everywhere. The yellow symbolizing the race's skin while the red represents blood. Famous singers took center stage, and the elders got a front row seat with their hats and umbrella's to block the sun. With so much good food and in a peaceful environment in the heart of the tenderloin, it was hard not to have a good time. For the most part I have to say, the Festival was small and sweet, yet like just like Vietnamese people.

The Big Bang Machine- countdown

In Geneva, A giant machine called the Large Hadron Collider is built entirelly underground at the CERN research centre straddling the Franco-Swiss border is where International physicists plan to smash particles together to create, on a small-scale, re-enactments of the event that started up the cosmos.
This 20-year project will be launched wednesday Sept 10th. It is the biggest experiment ever to be conducted to explore the how the universe was created. Physisits hope to answer questions like the existance of matter which can not be seen "dark matter" and mirocospic black holes. The Particles will be traveling near the speed of light when they colide. Basicly they hope to recreate the conditons right after the "big bang". WOW! very impressive. Scientists have garenteed that their experiment will be safe and hope to gain valauble knowledge.

My question is are we tampering with the wrong black hole? what if we find something so mind bowing it will change the world as we know it? Or destroy it. This is dangerous grounds we are stepping on if something should go wrong the world migh be swallowed whole. I guess this is a chance we might have to take. Now that this project is underway I really want to see what comes from it. Its a scene straight from a science fiction movie. This massive machine will reval its powers on wednesday so stay tuned.

The question is will the world be englufed into a balck hole once the machine is turned on?

Re visit to New Orleans

Three years ago I visited New Orleans one week after the Hurricane Katrina with two other students and a working photographer. A week ago I re-visited New Orleans on a positive note for a Women in Photojournalism Conference. It was an eerie feeling that brought back imagery and feelings from what I remembered during time of Hurricane Katrina. Seeing the people and places that were deserted and a disaster now alive and bustling with people was a stark change. Although it was a good feeling to actually see what New Orleans might have been like before the Hurricane, it was also sad to most areas have not changed back to normal. This 2008 summer has kicked off with my Internship at the San Jose Mercury News Paper. One of the hardest papers to become an intern and one of the most advanced in terms of online and creativity. Here are a few photos I have taken so far.

Pattie Corbett, 50, trained for the lightweight bodybuilding division and won first place and overall bodybuilding competition at the San Jose Bodybuilding Championships.

The Governator of California (at San Jose State for Olympics kick off headquarters) refused to address any questions about pay cuts in for state employees, however he posed nicely for his photo OP.

Save the Newspapers

Please save the Newspapers. No young people read the newspaper anymore. we get our information sources online and through T.V if we even care at all. So where do that leave the dusty newspaper where thousands journalist and photojournalist work to bring the community its news. All thought all big newspapers have their paper online and we are constantly inventing creative video and audio sideshows readership levels are on the decline. The big chunk of the newspaper revenue comes for advertising. That money is taken away by the internet, craigslist (classifieds) and lack of interest. So where dose this leave an eager intern at San Jose Mercury Newspaper, smack dead in the thick of it.
As layoff cut newsrooms in half and buyouts sound more like a good option where dose it leave the intern. Its a mess. Just as the dust settles from previous layoffs this year the next round impacts everyone again. As a watchful intern i can only look from a sad outside perspective and wonder where am i going . Will i end up a lonely old photojournalist outside Lowells hardware store looking for photo work from a passerby. Competing with Pulitzer prize winers and other washed up small paper workers bumping elbows. So please help save the Newspapers for the love of journalism or we are all doomed.

3. Support your local newspaper.
